What it’s like to work at Circle
At Circle, our goal is to create a sustainable workplace where archaeologists can find stability and longevity. We love what we do. But we know that this is a tough industry to be in. That’s why we’re proud to have created—and continue to cultivate—a culture of support, learning, and adventure.
To give you a true sense of what it’s like to work here, we sat down with Katerina “Kat” Murashko, one of our dedicated team members, to hear about her professional experiences and what keeps her motivated at Circle.
What initially drew you to work at Circle, and what keeps you motivated to stay?
I was originally drawn to Circle because of my interest in anthropology and archaeology. I was curious about how archaeology in Western Canada works, and Circle seemed like a great place to learn and get involved. I’m here because of the incredible work environment and the amazing people I get to collaborate with every day.
Working at Circle has allowed me to grow and learn so much, both in archaeology and in life. Plus, I get to see and experience so many new places while learning more about the human past, which is exciting and motivating every day!
Can you describe a typical day at Circle? What’s the work environment like?
It’s hard to describe a ‘typical’ day because as a field archaeologist, every day is different. We generally work in Alberta and BC, though the work areas change, and even our transportation methods can vary depending on the location. The weather can also impact how a day unfolds, but safety is always a top priority. That unpredictability is one of the most exciting aspects of working in the field—it keeps things fresh and interesting!
When we’re in the office, things are a bit more predictable—tasks like cataloging, lab work, or other office duties—but even that can change depending on client needs. Regardless of where or what we’re doing, the work environment at Circle is incredibly supportive and collaborative, and we all work together to get the job done.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Definitely the hands-on discovery aspect of archaeology. There’s something incredibly rewarding about unearthing artifacts and learning more about the human past. But it’s not just about the finds—it’s also about working in remote parts of the province, often alongside Indigenous land representatives, and making a real impact on the understanding of history. The work is challenging, but it’s always fulfilling.
How does Circle support your personal and professional growth?
Circle supports my growth in so many ways. Professionally, we’re encouraged to set goals, and the company offers continuous learning opportunities and mentorship to help us reach them. But they also really care about our personal development too. Your well-being is always a priority here—whether it’s taking time off for health reasons or attending seminars and talks to grow professionally, Circle ensures you’re supported. I’ve learned so much from both the team and the various opportunities the company provides, and that’s helped me grow in ways I never expected.
What advice would you give to someone considering applying to Circle?
Definitely apply! Circle is full of caring, knowledgeable people who make each day better. Yes, the work is physically and mentally challenging, but also incredibly rewarding. You’ll get to work in remote and beautiful areas, collaborate with amazing colleagues, and learn so much along the way. Plus, the support and camaraderie here make everything so much more enjoyable. If you’re passionate about archaeology and ready for an exciting adventure, Circle is the place to be!
We’re always on the lookout for talented individuals. We usually start planning for the field season (May to November) in March and continue hiring as projects come in. We never know when things can get hectic, so don’t hesitate to send us your cover letter and resume anytime to info@circleconsulting.ca, especially in August when we gear up for our busiest time!
Working at Circle isn’t just about the work—it’s about the people, the growth, and the shared sense of purpose. Thanks to Kat for sharing her journey with us!
