A good number of business owners around the world will tell you the importance of corporate social responsibility. They believe in giving back. After all, why be greedy? Share.
TOMS is a shoe company that had this concept in mind before it even began. Blake Mycoskie decided from the onset that every pair of shoes purchased would be matched with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need, having discovered that many children in developing countries had none. Without shoes to protect the feet, children are more susceptible to disease and infection, and, in fact, can prevent a child from going to school.
TOMS has been a great success; they raised 10,000 pairs of shoes in their first year alone. As of September 2010, 1,000,000 shoes have been given to children in need. Have you got your TOMS?
